Goldfinches gather every spring behind the house for nesting in the small grove of trees there. In every picture I've ever seen, the males are always pictured with a small black cap. What caught my attention, (and what inspired me to paint this small 'postcard' painting), was the absence of the black cap on the birds in my backyard. Even an internet search for pictures like them turned up nothing.
